Arsenic

Field of view: 10 mm. A group of pseudocubic arsenic. The silver white surface turns black immediately. Local people call this as Kompeito-ishi after the traditional Japanese candy, Kompeito.

Recovered from clay veins of a low-temperature hydrothermal deposit associated with rhyolite. Formed in the late Oligoene (25 Ma).

The first arsenic from Japan was reported from this location in 1893, and arsenic from this location was designated the prefectural mineral of Nagano in 2016 by the Geological Society of Japan.
