Epipelagic - Abyssopelagic (0 - 6,000 m)

Circumstances

Hotspot volcanoes at the ocean, which forms oceanic islands. Hotspot basalts are tholeiitic and alkaline, and are rich in alkaline elements such as Na and K. Seamount-reef complex is composed of seamount volcanoes and organic reefs such as coral reefs near the surface of the sea.

Sedimentary facies (Sediments)

Basalt, and limestone originated from organic reef. Seamount summit: Shallow marine limenstone with organic reef sediments. Upper slope of seamount: clastic limestone with sponge spicule chert. Lower slope of seamount: Sponge spicule chert with clastic limestone. Lower slope of seamount - Ocean floor: Radiolarian chert.
